Leading UK comics indie Broken Voice Comics recently released an online edition of Chapter 8 of its flagship title – the online graphic novel Shades. (Some early episodes of Shades are also trailed on ROK Comics).
Written by David A J Berner and illustrated in full colour by artist Harsho Mohan Chattoraj, Shades tells the story of a group of heroes in the UK, struggling to come to terms with their role in late 20th Century Britain; a Britain still haunted by the loss of Empire.
“This is an important milestone for us,” explains Berner. “We intend to release the print version of Shades in two volumes. Chapter 8 is the final chapter of Volume 1 and so we will be preparing formal submissions to publishers very shortly.”
“Personally, I think it’s a fantastic chapter to end the volume,” he added. “Harsho has produced some of his best artwork to-date and, whilst it will be a little while before readers can see it all online, story-wise, there’s still plenty in store for them!”
“The chapter opens with the central characters trying to deal with the loss of one of their number and proceeds to flesh out the back-story of the Shaman, one of the more enigmatic characters in the book. And then, of course there’s a spectacular ending which – for obvious reasons – I’m not at liberty to disclose!”

Rites of Passage for BVC's Shades
Broken Voice Comics has released Chapter 7 of its flagship title – the online graphic novel Shades – on its web site at www.broken

Written by David A J Berner and illustrated in full colour by artist Harsho Mohan Chattoraj, Shades, which also features on ROK Comics, tells the story of a group of heroes in the UK, struggling to come to terms with their role in late 20th Century Britain; a Britain still haunted by the loss of Empire.
With the main protagonists now firmly established, Chapter 7 (titled “Rite of Passage”) will see teenagers Becky, Craig and Ryan Allen keen to prove themselves to their childhood heroes – former World War fighter pilot Doug Chamberlain, the mystical figure known as the Shaman and the First Century warrior queen Boudicca.
“The conflict between generations is one of the principal themes in Shades,” explains Berner. “The younger heroes are keen to tackle the threat they’ve identified from a suspected terrorist group known as the Cult of Bedlam. However, Doug, Boudicca and the Shaman are – for a variety of reasons – not entirely ready to stand down and hand over the baton. Over the next few chapters, some hard lessons are going to have to be learned on both sides!”

Hunted
If, like us, you've been waiting to sink your fangs into Broken Voice Comics vampire-themed comic Hunted ever since it was originally scheduled for launch back in February, then rejoice - the wait is finally over!
Yes, the first pages from this original take on the vampire genre have been posted at Broken Voice Comics today, so what can you expect? Well, as faras this week is concerned, you can expect to meet Elena (Leni to her friends!) but stick with it and, before long, you'll be seeing vampires in a whole new light!
Alternatively, this comic is also the first BVC title to have a simultaneous launch both as a webcomic and, thanks to ROK Comics, as a download direct to your mobile phone.
In fact, the mobile version will probably be running slightly ahead of the full text version so, if you want to know what happens after today's launch pages, take a look at this free trailer before downloading the first instalment!
